1 Installation

1.1 OS

I have previously used the NOOBS image successfully, but for some reason (due to the lack of a HDMI monitor) I couldn't get it work this time (with my composite monitor).

1.2 Wifi

I then used this recipe to set up wifi: http://www.dafinga.net/2013/01/how-to-setup-raspberry-pi-with-hidden.html

  • wpasupplicant was already installed.
  • Somehow the wifi connection didn't work first time round, and while I was playing with lsusb, lsmod, iwconfig it somehow started working. We'll need to see.
  • /etc/resolv.conf needed adding another name server - I don't fully understand this, maybe it's a problem with my home network.
  • The wifi doesn't seem to work that reliably.

1.3 update

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

Not sure whether this is needed:

sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-bootloader

1.4 network performance

It's always good to know what the network throughput is, so iperf is your app:

sudo apt-get install iperf
